Who I am Too

In conjunction with Escape Arts, and funded by NBBC Healthier Communities, local community artist Ali Woolacott ran workshops with members of Escape Arts Group, Young Carers and Age UK for the ‘Who I am Too’ project. Participants, with ages ranging from 8-91, created unique, individual designs which have been transferred onto the life-sized fibreglass sheep sculpture at The Station Gallery, by members of local art group Art Alert.  Mini decorated sheep created during some of the art sessions form part of the exhibition and members of the public were invited to add to the flock by decorating their own mini sheep. The project continued by encouraging visitors to design their own shape to represent a human and to draw this onto the wall display.

During her workshops, Ali encouraged participants to consider the different community groups which we live amongst in Nuneaton and Bedworth and asked people how they could represent the human form through a shape or icon.  This was followed by discussions around our experiences within the buildings, past and present, in our local area, with designs forming based on the shape and structure of the individual buildings. Layered patterns began to form juxtaposing the humans within the buildings and vice versa.

The completed sheep has been exhibited around the local area, beginning with a short stay at The Heritage Centre as part of an art garden project where she will be proudly standing adjacent to a metal sculpture of George Eliot.
